This series contains the administrative records of Chairman Gordon Persons which were used to conduct the daily affairs of the Rural Electrification Authority. The records include: incoming letters; correspondence; reports; forms; contracts; legal documents; maps; engineering blueprints; bulletins; publications; press releases; and minutes. The files are divided by company, department, and subject. Agencies and departments include: Ala. Power Company; other Ala. power companies; General Electric Company; General Construction Corporation; American Steel and Wire Company; Georgia Public Service Commission; Ala. Public Service Commission; Public Works Administration (Washington); Ala. Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University); South Carolina Rural Electrification Authority; Engineering Department; Attorney General's Office; Secretary of State; development division; examining division; and the legal department. Subject files include: publicity; contractors; manufacturers; Tennessee Valley Authority; Auburn Extension Service; rejected contracts; Governor Bibb Graves; Governor Frank Dixon; wiring inspections; state legislation; federal legislation; rates; engineers (by name); personnel; bid forms; directors; officers; salaries; senators; and representatives. There are also alphabetical files which include correspondence with such people as Hugo Black, Lister Hill, Sam Hobbs, and George Huddleston. This series documents the activities of the Ala. Rural Electrification Authority and of the chairman, Gordon Persons.

Hugo LaFayette Black (1886-1971) was a judge for the Supreme Court of the United States. He was nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 12, 1937; confirmed by the Senate on August 17, 1937; and received his commission on August 18, 1937. Dixon was born 1892 July 25 to Frank and Launa Murray Dixon in Oakland, Cal. In 1906 he entered Phillips Academy in Exeter, N.H.; then attended Columbia University for one term.
